Hello Yahoo peeps, While on vacation our transmission went out! We hauled it to a uncles house (2 hours away from our home), and my sister gave us a ride back home. We’ve gotten estimates at around $1,200 to replace it. We’re without a car, thank god my daughters school is only a few blocks away.

We’re trying to find out if buying a car from a public auction would be cheaper and last us longer.

The car that broke is a 2002 dodge neon with 140k miles.

Where can we look or call to find out where there are public auctions with good used cheap cars??
Please help us out!

You should stay as far away from public car auctions as you can get. Those auctions are just scams by unscrupulous car dealers to sell undesirable cars. The dealers go to the dealer auctions and buy cars that look nice from a distance and that they can buy cheap. They then hold auctions with professional auctioneers that stir up alot of excitement. There are shill bidders that drive up the prices. Then the sucker gets caught up in the excitement and starts bidding on cars that he knows nothing about. Next thing the sucker owns the car and discovers all of the mechanical problems. Also the so called warranty turns out to be worthless. So the cars are not good and they definitly are not cheap.
