Call the local PD using the non-emergency number.

Someone should be able to tell you when they have impound auctions.

Whether or not that is a smart idea to bet on that for a car (been to enough of them to see what gets sold myself)…a debate for another day.

Try calling up the police department. They should be able to tell you when their next auction is. You can also try calling a couple of impound yards, which is where the police put seized cars.

I am in dire need of a car. Lol. My car broke down and I have been saving money for a new one for a couple of months. I still dont have quite enough for a down payment but I am curious about police auctions.
Are the cars nice? Is it a rip off? I want a good car that will last for awhile.
I just need some general information on it, your opinions.
Thanks everyone!
=)

to be honest most police cars have lots of miles on them and hard miles at that. my suggestion is to try looking on craigslist.org for your area

if you are looking for a cheap car, go with one from a police auction. My cousin bought a car from there and he loves it! Most of these cars are pretty decent, and go for cheap prices. If this doesnt work out try craigslist, ebay, or some other places that might have some cheap cars. remember to have a mechanic look at any car before you buy it. Also try to go with a foreign made car, they usually last longer as long as they are taken car of

    BEST OF LUCK

    On ex-cop cars.

    They are serviced regularly.

Depending on the mileage and such it could be a great investment for you.

Most police get these cars new from the dealer- and all records are kept for all repairs and mainenance.

Just make sure it is a good car before you buy it.

Ask to see the paper work

Here where I am in FL the police auctions consist mostly of seized vehicles. The best thing to do is to go before the auction begins, with someone who know about cars and check out the ones that interest you. I know this is allowed here. Contact your local police dept. to see if there is a list of cars that will be for sale. Here, it's usually posted on their website. I'm sure there are some decent cars, it's just choosing the right one. With new or used we run the risk of problems b/c cars are man-made. I know the feeling of needing a reliable car, you just have to pray about it and all will be well. Good luck!

Toyota's and Honda's are great cars and last for miles!

Police auctions are a good place to buy a car if your "price buying" Police cars are maintained regularly. E-bay is also a good place to look. KBB.com will help give you an idea of what you can expect to pay for a car. I'd look for a domestic model. Don't fall for the foreign car hype. Domestic models are easier and much more reasonable to repair, they don't rust like the foreign models do, and they are more reliable than the foreign models.

Someone answered one of my questions with a gov't car auction, this just might be the best idea for me, because, I don't have a lot of money. And I would like to get one, before the summer ends, so that I can have my own car and not have to depend on others to drive me around.

Can anyone tell me about police car auctions?
Are there any draw backs to doing it?

With police car auctions, it's a Buyer Beware sale. They guarantee nothing about the car. If you buy it and it's a lemon, too bad. With Gov't surplus, if they state the car is good, and it isn't, they are obligated to take the car back if you don't want it. I know that from co-workers who bought Gov't auction cars and had a bad transmission not listed, he got his money back. There are also Impound cars sold by private towing companies, again, these are Buyer beware sales, no guarantees on the car being good, but you can get some good deals, and some cheap transportation. But you better be prepared for lemonade! LOL.

It's possible to get some good deals at government seized and surplus sales but you have to know what you're doing.

First there's competition from dealers and others who may know more than you. Second, you don't get much if any chance to inspect or drive the cars. Third, you have to have cash, or guaranteed financing already lined up.

I would not let any one in my family buy one . and don't trust the milage they pull speed'o out all the time. very high maintenance . most govt auction are junk. Good Luck

I would enquire where the car came from & find out if the the car was used as a training vehicle & has sustained considerble damage. Emergency vehicles are more expensive to repair due to the specialized factory eqiupment.

Most cars at police auctions have hidden problems, maybe you should go to a dealer and get a quality checked car

I've bought 2 cars from a police auction a 90 honda civic $600.00 only needed batt. ran just fine and a saturn for 600.00 that needed a fuel pump so its a give take situation. usually you can go a day before and look at the cars. you really dont know whats wrong if anything. its an auction best price wins.
